7 Layer Dip (1)

I have always loved 7 Layer Dip. Pretty much I love anything that has any kind of taco flavors in it, and especially if it is an appetizer because I’m obsessed with all things appetizer related.

I know you’ve heard this many times if you have read my blog for any length of time is that I could make a whole meal out of just a multitude of appetizers.

No joke, I love hand-held food, dips and all the good stuff that you can just graze on. Plus it gives me more options on thing to eat and fit on my plate.

This 7 Layer Dip is one of those appetizers, we love making this all year round because it never get’s old, but we make it a lot during the summertime to bring to gatherings.

Everyone that I know loves 7 Layer Dip, it is just one of of those iconic dips that never really get’s old and that is why we keep making it over and over again.

A lot of the time we will just make this dip with some chips and sit down and eat it as a meal, my husband and I could polish off the whole pan by ourselves, no judgment.

Some of our other favorite dips we have on our site include Baked Queso Dip, French Onion Dip and this Stuffed Mushroom Dip (a personal fave).

How easy is this? Also how yummy! Just all those flavors mixed together and you get them all in one bite, it literally just makes me drool!

I honestly cannot get enough of this 7 Layer Dip Recipe it is just too good, plus it always goes over well with everyone. I like to make my own homemade rather than buying it from the store.

When I can make things homemade I would rather do that, sometimes when I am on a time crunch I do purchase it from the store, but homemade always tastes better.

WHY IS IT CALLED 7 LAYER DIP?

Mainly it is called this because it literally contains 7 different layers. Thisis an American appetizer based on ingredients typical of Tex-Mex food. The first widely published recipecalledit Tex-MexDip.

It then eventually over the years had it’s name change by who know and has now become to be iconically known as 7 Layer Dip!

WHAT OTHER THINGS CAN I ADD?

If you are not a fan of some of the layers in the dip you can omit them and you can also add some of your other favorite ingredients some that we sometimes use are:

  1. Guacamole instead of the mashed avocado
  2. Pico de Gallo
  3. Diced red or white onion
  4. Salsa

Or any other topping that you can really think of that you would like to add with these flavors, there really is on limits to this dish.

HOW TO STORE:

7 Layer Dip can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days tightly wrapped with plastic wrap or foil. The avocados are known to brown quick but since they are covered they are more protected.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • We like to use Mexican shredded cheese for this, but feel free to use cheddar or Monterey Jack.
  • You can swap out the mashed avocados with guacamole if you like.
  • You can halve this batch to make a smaller portion for only a few people.
  • We love using Roma tomatoes for this recipe and that is primarily the ones that we use.
  • You can serve this with tortilla chips, crackers, pita bread, tortillas, etc.
