Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Hold your head up
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused

Hold your head up
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up, movin' on
Hold your head up, movin' on
Keep your head up

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something

I know the proper meaning. I don't mean to sound big-headed, but if you read her biography it tells you the meanings of all the songs. She said that this song means that everyone in the world is looking for fulfillment or they're looking for something & that some people want to use you or they want you to use them & some people want to abuse others, but others want people to abuse them & sweet dreams are made of anything that takes your fancy. I'd type up the exact words what she actually said, but it'll take me forever to find the page what it's on.

Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics is about Annie & Dave experiences in the music industry before becoming worldwide famous (when they were in The Tourists back in the '70's). Musicians are abused by big companies in order to get more money. Instead you think that this are your sweet dreams becoming reality.

This song is telling me that people use, abuse, are used, and are abused because they need other people and loneliness feels worse. However, I think it is an upbeat song and it makes me feel better whenever I sing it to myself. The song tells me that I should just recognize this about social relationships and "move on" instead of getting bogged down about how I hurt and am hurt by other people.

Ok, this is a little off topic, but I'd like to address a couple of things that I think clearly indicate a severe lack of intelligence with regard to the Marilyn Manson cover. I don't know much about this song, or about why Marilyn Manson covered it; I just think that two users in particular are having some bigger problems with understanding it. I think TruthSpeaker used "666" in reference to the Marilyn Manson cover, which I think is really lame. I think its lame because Marilyn Manson has no direct relation to the "number of the beast" and referencing it is just stupid idea that people will think you are more 'dark' or 'hardcore'. I think that gtkleee151 is an idiot for thinking that all Marilyn Manson does is "dress in all black and curse and yell about all the negativities in life." I think he or she is an idiot because most of the music by Marilyn Manson that I have heard (Antichrist Superstar, Holy Wood, Mechanical Animals, etc) is alluding to social or psychological issues that he thinks that people should pay attention to, such as religion, bullying, fame, drugs. Things that I'm sure he has had experiences with and is now expressing distaste for. I think its appropriate to scream about it. I think its Howling (Allen Ginsberg) in a different way, more suited to our modern culture.

Not to sound too pretentious :)

But would you pay attention some 16 year old on the internet who thinks he knows everything, or someone famous who is screaming at you for not caring about the problems that make a difference in the lives of the people around you?

    Song Meaning

A classic example of not believing what you read. The truth about this classic song has been long misinterpreted for nearly 30 years. I was a manager for a band on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia in 1990 with a drummer named Jim Toomey ( Who played in the band "The Tourists" along with Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox before they formed the latter "The Eurythmics". Jim told me the meaning behind the song which goes like this. He was asked to join The Eurythmics when The Tourists folded. Dave Stewart wrote the song in Jims honour as he declined the offer to join the band having been prior in numerous other bands over many years and was tiring of all the constant travel, getting ripped off and burnt by managers and record companies alike. Jim and Dave had a very strong bond together and loved each other like brothers. It has nothing at all to do with BDSM. It's all about Jim.

i Have herd both Manson's version and the Eurythmics version and i think the Eurythmics version is ok but because the lyrics are kinda dark i think Manson does a better job of it, They way he sings it .. kinda relates to the lyrics more .... but hey thats what i think ...anyways

I think this song is about relationships.

"Sweet dreams are made of thisWho am I to disagree?"

When I think of sweet dreams, I think of fairytale endings, where the prince and princess live happily ever after. The singer is saying that this isn't all it's cracked up to be, that there are no happy endings. The line, "Who am I to disagree" is almost ironic. If this is what sweet dreams are made of, why am I complaining?

Then the next few lines, talking about being used and abused, clearly refer to people who only want to use you in a relationship (i.e. a guy dating a girl only to get into her pants, or a gold digger marrying a rich man just to get money) or people who experience domestic violence in their relationships.

Ave Grave Thee More Shallows So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation. Siberian Kiss Glassjaw its amazing how far music can come.. 24 years after it released and its one of the most heartfelt songs ive heard Fortnight Taylor Swift The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro. Mental Istid Ebba Grön This is one of my favorite songs. https://fnfgo.io
