What are the Benefits of Neem Oil?

Neem oil is pretty awesome. Since first using it in my , I’ve become a huge fan. I’ve not only been using it myself, but have also had co-workers try it out for various ailments with great results. Neem oil is not only beneficial for people with dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis, it’s also great for treating cold sores, athlete’s foot, acne, and even scabies.

I first made this homemade neem cream recipe for a friend who had gotten chiggers after tromping through the woods for her lost dog. It cleared it up very quickly. She also used it on her dog’s stomach rash with great results. In addition to all of neem oil’s rocking qualities – antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial – it also helps to keep pesky biting insects off of dogs and pests off of garden plants.

Use this all natural, homemade neem cream recipe on cold sores for faster healing time as well as on feet to help clear up and prevent athlete’s foot. You can also use it all over as needed for dry skin, eczema and psoriasis. And it works great on dogs too for skin irritations, rashes sores and other skin conditions. (You can also wash your dog in a Natural Neem Dog Shampoo that won’t irritate sensitive skin.)

Be forewarned, however, neem oil does stink. It’s kind of a garlic nutty smell. Butlemongrass and lavender essential oils do a pretty good job of masking the worst of neem oil’s natural scent.

How to Make Neem Cream:

To make my homemade neem cream recipe, you’ll begin by weighing out the cocoa butter and shea butter using a digital scale. Place the butters in a glass measuring cup and melt either in the microwave at 30% power or in a double boiler until melted. Remove from heat.

Next weigh out the tamanu, jojoba, grape seed and neem oils and stir into the melted shea and cocoa butters.

Using plastic transfer pipettes or glass droppers, add the essential oils, vitamin E and rosemary extract. Stir well, then pour into two 2 oz. glass jars or one 4 oz. glass jar. Allow to cool completely and solidify.

It can take this cream up to twenty-four hours to solidify. You can speed up the process by placing your container of homemade neem cream in the refrigerator. However, you may need to mix the cream again once solidified in the fridge to get a smooth consistency.
