According to the Governor of Quintana Roo, the state has not imposed an alcohol ban on restaurants in Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum as reported by multiple sources.

“Good day friends, it's important to follow official accounts and not listen to rumors. We are always on the lookout to resolve your doubts,” stated governor Carlos Joaquin on his official verified Facebook account. Along with the caption was a photo of the news story that ran with the words ‘Falso' (False) written across it.

Travelers panicked as rumors spread that alcohol would be banned in all restaurants. Tourists took to message forums asking if the ban would affect all-inclusive resorts and contemplated canceling their trip.

“Does this include resorts? I can't imagine an ‘all-inclusive' without alcohol. Might as well cancel if this is the case,” said Simon F. from New Hampshire on a Trip Advisor message board.

While the news did appear credible with screenshots taken of an ‘official decree' allegedly published by the state gazette, the Governor did confirm the alcohol ban is not true.

Restaurants, hotels and resorts may continue to sell alcohol but must follow restrictions set out by the ‘Yellow' epidemiological light system.
