3 Tiny Steps to Make Store-Bought Dinner Rolls Taste Amazing (1)

For anyone cooking Thanksgiving dinner, remember that you’re allowed to take some shortcuts here and there — in fact, we encourage it! It is worth your own well-being to lean a little on store-bought saviors; the meal will still be just as delicious and memorable.

Case in point? Dinner rolls. Yes, from-scratch rolls are pretty fantastic, but store-bought rolls can be too — they just need to be jazzed up a bit. Here are three ways to do just that.

First off, let’s not neglect the basics here: Rolls should always be served warm. Gently warm store-bought rolls in the oven, wrapped in foil, while the turkey is resting, or in the microwave under a damp towel. After that, jazz up your rolls in one of these simple ways.

1. Brush with melted butter.

Before warming the store-bought rolls in the oven, brush them generously with melted butter. As the rolls warm, they’ll soak some of that luscious flavor, making them extra moist and tender.

2. Sprinkle with fresh herbs.

After that healthy brush of melted butter, sprinkle some finely chopped fresh herbs over the rolls. Use whatever you have on hand. Herbs like rosemary, thyme, sage, and oregano are all great contenders.

3. Finish with flaky salt.

A sprinkle of flaky sea salt just before serving makes just about anything taste better, and store-bought dinner rolls are no exception. After they’ve been warmed in the oven with butter and herbs, grab a few big pinches and sprinkle them all over the tops of the rolls to lend crunchy, salty pops of flavor.
